Principal's Message

Dear Turtleback Students and Families,

Welcome to the 2026–27 school year! This year promises to be filled with exciting discoveries, lasting friendships, new experiences, and, most importantly, learning.

We are thrilled to be entering our second year of Wildly Important Goals (WIGs), and this year our focus is clear: literacy. We are committed to ensuring every student makes meaningful academic progress, and we will be monitoring growth throughout the year. Our WIGs for 2026–27 are:

  • 100% of students will make one year of growth as measured by i-Ready and CAASPP.
  • 75% of students will score Proficient or Advanced on CAASPP.

Last year, we met our goal of 70% proficiency in reading as measured by i-Ready, a wonderful achievement that reflects the hard work of our students, staff, and families. As we enter our second year of WIGs, we are excited to build on that momentum and reach even greater heights. The progress we saw last year gives us great confidence in what we can accomplish together.

We are also proud of the tremendous growth in student attendance last year. Through the dedication of our families and staff, we improved attendance every month, increasing our overall attendance rate by 1.6% over the course of the year. That kind of consistent improvement makes a meaningful difference in student learning, and we look forward to continuing that trend.

Turtleback remains a proud Leader in Me school. Our Leader in Me paradigms guide everything we do:

  • Everyone Can Be a Leader
  • Empower Students to Lead Their Own Learning
  • Everyone Has Genius
  • Change Starts with Me
  • Educators and families partner to develop the whole person

At Turtleback, we believe in nurturing the whole child. Our goal is for every student to recognize and develop their unique strengths while contributing to a community where everyone learns from and uplifts one another.

This handbook provides a high-level overview of our school programs, procedures, and expectations. Please take a few moments to review its contents and keep it handy for future reference. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. It is truly an honor to serve this incredible community.

With excitement and gratitude,

Lisa Maguire, Principal
